Wars, Politics, Racism, and Christmas
Jingle Bells, Pentatonix Christmas specials, Charlie Brown Christmas, Singing Christmas trees, gifts, and rides to see Christmas lights. Everyone is having a blast preparing for this years Christmas festivities! What an exciting, fun time to be with family and celebrate! Until you watch national news, get out of your bubble, and hear of National Guard troops being deployed, North and South Korea bickering, Democrats/Republicans/Tea Party constituents mud-slinging, and then you hear how inferior anyone of any other race than the person talking is. It doesn't feel much like Christmas then. It probably feels more like chaos and uncontrollable anger.
At the most festive, joyous, loving time of the year it seems that everyone has lost their ever-loving minds! Which, to be honest, is more to the heart of Christmas than we may realize. We aren't just celebrating a baby boy being born in a stable. We aren't just excited about a bright star shining overhead, nor are we pumped about wisemen bringing gifts. It's what the birth represents, who the gifts are for, and why the star is shining. It's not that Jesus was even born of a virgin. It's that Jesus was foretold to come, change lives, enhance cultures, and to be 4 things to this world in Isaiah 9:6 -> Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.
It is also said that He shall be called Emmanuel meaning "God With Us" (Matthew 1:23). Here's what that means; that since He is God with us - then by being the 4 characteristics listed in Isaiah 9:6 He is becoming God to us in those areas! I find it comforting to know that while chaos is taking place all around us - peace is taking rest inside of us. He is the Prince of Peace and the only way we can truly encounter life changing peace is simply to accept/receive the prince of that peace!
Peace is not the absence of problems, it's the ability to get through them anyway, and the only way to do that is through Jesus! We can't peacefully encounter chaos without the Prince of Peace! Everything will seem overwhelming and too much for us internally if we don't work through Jesus to get the peace He desires for us to have. This Christmas it's ok, and recommended, to enjoy the festivities of the season. But, I beg you, don't go through the Christmas season without accepting the birthday boy, and the peace that He brings.
This Sunday at 10 & 11:30 we are bringing in more chairs, we are rolling out new surprises, and tons of fun to celebrate Christmas with you, your family, your friends, and your neighbors/coworkers. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about the Prince of Peace, and don't let the people you do life with miss the opportunity as well! I'll see YOU Sunday morning! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
