Pull up a chair!

The holidays are here! Hallmark is on the TV with it's Christmas specials, the trees are decorated and lit, the garland is hung, and the outdoor lights are haunting men everywhere as we begin to put them on the house. The family gatherings are being planned, the dishes are being organized, and the gifts are being bought. For many the holidays are a special time of year; full of happiness, joy, laughter, and love. For some, however, the holidays are difficult as they miss loved ones, they lament over lost relationships, or just wish they had someone to trade gifts with.

Wherever you are on the spectrum of emotion during this holiday season, I want you to do something that we are going to challenge everyone at Radiate Church to do this holiday season. Pull up a chair beside you (proverbially) and leave room for someone else to sit at the table of life with you. Let someone else come home for the holidays with you. That person, of course, is the star of the season, the reason we celebrate in the first place.... JESUS!

Isaiah 9:6 prophecies the coming of King Jesus and what kind of King/ruler He would be. He says Jesus will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. The truth is we can all go through the holidays with our own emotions, but never invite the most prestigious guest in the room with us. We can decorate the house, buy the gifts, love the families, and eat the meals but leave Jesus out. And if we leave Him out of the celebrations we can't really be celebrating Him right? He has to be the distinguished guest, the man of the hour, the man of our lives really!

From now until Christmas we will be dissecting and learning what it means that Jesus is called all 4 of these names. This holiday season, if you're hurting or healed, if you're broken or whole, if you're struggling financially or living with excess, let's all pull up a chair to the table of our lives (actually let's pull up 4) and ask the King to sit with us and help us. Let's not just learn what it means to have a Wonderful Counselor, but what it means to live with one, day-by-day.

This series this month will be one of hope, encouragement, power, healing, and grace. I believe when we get down to who He really is in the first place, we will begin to see Jesus in a whole new light! I can't wait to see you and your guests this Sunday at Radiate Church. I'll be the one sitting with an extra seat around me, just for the guest of the hour - The Wonderful Counselor! I'll save you a seat too! See you there!
